I’ve been exploring how AI can support character-driven storytelling — not just generate visuals. For this animated project, I developed a story around three Chinese domestic cats, combining character design, cinematic visual direction, animation, editing, original music, and multilingual subtitles into one creative workflow. The biggest challenge was consistency: keeping each character recognizable while maintaining the same visual world, personality, and storytelling rhythm across scenes. AI accelerated parts of the production process, but the storytelling decisions — pacing, humor, shot selection, music, and emotional beats — still needed deliberate creative direction. I’m continuing to refine this workflow for short films, branded storytelling, and social content. Curious how other creatives are balancing AI generation with human creative direction.

The goal was not simply to create an animated video, but to build recognizable characters and turn them into a repeatable storytelling format that can grow across short-form content and longer episodes. Aerolight Transit Bottle Features and Benefits Video Art Director: Kelly Connelly DP: Cyrus Sutton I was tasked with replacing the brand’s previous animated feature and benefits video with a lifestyle based version. This was the successful proof of concept which set the standard for future F&B videos. I created a conceptual storyboard which was approved by stakeholders, directed the shoot on location and then edited the video and added the text overlays and effects. The final video was considered a success with over 168K views on YouTube.
