All my portraits start as nothing but a reference photo and a blank canvas in Procreate on iPad. I start with a base sketch, then I block in some base colors (all hand-picked by eye). I slowly build the colors, taking time to intentionally adjust both the shapes and the colors as I go for maximum accuracy. The final portraits take anywhere from 4-5 hours.
