Crafting a Clean & Engaging UI for Streamingguiden

Nordisk Film, through their leading movie website Kino.dk, sought to expand their digital footprint into the burgeoning streaming market. I was commissioned to design the user interface for Streamingguiden.dk, a new platform aimed at providing Danish users with comprehensive information on streaming content availability, film and TV show details, and relevant news. The goal was to create a visually appealing, user-friendly experience that highlighted the rich imagery of streaming content.

Kino.dk, a well-established brand in Danish cinema, wanted to leverage its reputation to capture a share of the streaming audience. The challenge was to create a design that balanced a clean, minimalist aesthetic with the need to showcase high-quality movie and TV show artwork. The platform also needed to provide easy access to detailed information, including actors, directors, trailers, and news. Coordinating with separate development and branding teams added a layer of complexity to the project.

My role was solely focused on the UI design, working within the brand guidelines established by another freelancer. The client emphasized a clean and minimalistic aesthetic, allowing the vibrant imagery of streaming content to take center stage. To ensure key information and calls-to-action stood out, a bright purple was chosen as the primary accent color.

The design process was conducted entirely in Figma. I focused on creating a visually engaging layout that prioritized clarity and ease of navigation. The high-quality artwork of the movies and tv shows were given ample space to shine. The primary purple was used strategically to highlight interactive elements, such as buttons and links, as well as to bring attention to key information points.

Figma's prototyping tools were instrumental in demonstrating interactive elements and user flows to stakeholders. This allowed for effective communication and ensured alignment on the project's direction.

The final design for Streamingguiden delivered a clean, content-focused user experience that met the client's requirements. The use of a minimalist aesthetic successfully highlighted the high-quality imagery of streaming content, while the vibrant purple accent provided visual interest and guided user interaction.

The project was completed within six weeks, and the Figma files were prepared for seamless handover to the development team. The interactive prototypes created in Figma facilitated clear communication and ensured that the developers understood the intended user experience.
