Open Collective
Fundraising is the lifeblood of a platform like Open Collective, more than 30 million dollars are managed each year using the features I helped conceptualize, design, and build. The suite of fundraising products was integral to empowering grassroots organizations, including a streamlined Contribution Flow for donations, robust project and event fundraising tools, and comprehensive contribution management systems.
As the lead designer on these critical features, I faced the challenge of creating interfaces that would serve diverse user groups – from small community projects to large open-source initiatives – while maintaining the transparency and accountability that Open Collective is known for. The design process required careful consideration of various payment methods, multiple currencies, and complex financial workflows, all while keeping the user experience intuitive and consistent.
Through iterative design and close collaboration with the development team, we created a cohesive fundraising ecosystem that has helped thousands of collectives worldwide achieve financial sustainability. Our solution not only simplified the donation process but also provided organizers with powerful tools to track, manage, and report on their financial activities, fostering a new era of transparent and community-driven funding.
