Summary

FAQs

  • Do you provide critiques?

Yes, I can provide a critique of your work, indicating areas which need strengthening or enhancement, as well as comments on the overall strength of the writing.

  • Do you look for areas of my content that can be enhanced?

Absolutely. I had one buyer who needed my help with his brochure content, and upon studying his company, I discovered he was not including his key service differentiator. We added that to the brochure, and it was a much more powerful sales tool.

  • How do you provide feedback?

I use Track Changes, so I add comments directly at the point of the needed change. But for areas where we need more feedback, I've found it is more helpful to generate a Word document, where I can more thoroughly discuss the issues, and suggest possible resolutions.

  • I have technical content that needs to be edited. How do you work with that?

I am very careful about making changes to technical content. I don't want to change the meaning of a phrase, which could possibly skew the message. I strive to improve the clarity of sentences. Instead of long, complex sentences, I try to break content into shorter, more digestible statements.

  • How many times will you review content as part of your editing?

I typically make three to four editing passes. The first is to correct basic errors, and get a sense of what the document is trying to say. I make a second pass to improve the clarity of sentences, making the content more active and engaging. I then edit to see how it all flows together.

  • Do you use Track Changes?

Yes I do. I do all my editing using Track Changes. When I deliver the content, I first deliver the version with the changes marked. I also deliver a second file, with all the changes accepted, so you can have a clean read of the content, to see how it works for you.

  • What makes you a good editor?

I have extensive promotional writing experience in a variety of fields. I also have a Marketing Degree and an MBA, and many years of experience in the business world. I bring all of that expertise to finding the best way to feature your content. I take pride in delivering an excellent product.

  • I will work to strengthen your message, to make it stand out and be engaging for potential buyers or investors.

A common problem I spot is when someone "buries the lead." They put the key detail at the very end of a paragraph, instead of at the top, where it belongs. Here's an example from a recent editing job: "Guided by trainers who knew exactly how to push my limits, I tackled a combination of Olympic lifts and plyometric exercises aimed at building raw power and stamina." Instead: "I tackled a combination of Olympic lifts and plyometric exercises aimed at building raw power and stamina, guided by trainers who knew exactly how to push my limits."
