A client had a very sensitive situation with customers who had come to her clinic. One of her staff had been performing unauthorized treatments, and giving bad information. She had to reach out to those customers, in a very diplomatic manner. I wrote the version I believed would directly address the situation.
She hesitated, and gave me a second version. I told her I thought it was avoiding the issue, and taking the blame on herself, instead of speaking directly to the source of the problem. I encouraged her to have several trusted advisors read both letter drafts. She did, and after they agreed with what I had written, she used it. She told me she was glad she used the more direct version.
