Stocktwits, the go-to spot for traders, had a problem: casual investors weren’t biting, and its social scene felt flat.

As a Senior Product Designer, my job was to reel in new users, keep the veterans, and turn freebies into premium payers — all while making it fun for degenerates.

I jumped in with data-fueled flair.

A new onboarding asked, “What’s your investing style?” — setting users up with a custom kickoff.

Smart feeds delivered hot stocks and expert tips tailored to their tastes.

Social got spicy with DMs, group chats, and live video rooms.

Overall, the results were 📈

Sign-ups soared 18%, paid conversions jumped 13%, and daily users rose 8%.

Posts surged 23%, satisfaction climbed 6%.

Newbies dipped out 5% faster — info overload — so we slowed the rollout.

A 2% churn hiccup? Fixed with sharper onboarding.

The lessons learned from it all?
