eCHIS Dashboard for Nigeria’s Community Health System

Role: Product Designer (UX/UI) Led the end-to-end product design of a national health information dashboard supporting multi-level health governance and community service tracking.

Timeline: 3 weeks – From requirement gathering to UI handoff
Project Overview: The goal was to design an intuitive, multi-level admin dashboard for the eCHIS (electronic Community Health Information System) to support NPHCDA in managing Nigeria’s national community health program. The platform needed to streamline data collection, monitor service delivery, track commodities, and manage CHWs across National, State, Local Government, and Facility levels.
The Challenge
Designing for users with varying digital literacy levels
Accommodating complex workflows like referrals, service logs, CHW payments, and household tracking
Ensuring the UI worked across offline/online modes with role-based access
Presenting massive health data in a simplified, actionable format
Approach
Requirements Mapping Collaborated with stakeholders to extract key workflows from alignment workshops, reports, and health system frameworks.
Information Architecture & Wireframing
Mapped out user roles (National, State, LGA, PHC)
Grouped features into clear, functional sidebar categories: Dashboard, Community Records, Service Log, Commodities, Referrals, Reports, Network (Coverage)
UI Design System
Built scalable components for high consistency
Prioritized readability, intuitive navigation, and offline-first layout
Data Visualization Created a responsive dashboard to visualize referral flows, service coverage, stock alerts, and CHW performance
Accessibility Ensured clean UX for CHWs and admins using low-spec devices in low-connectivity areas
Design Execution
Sidebar design tailored to roles (National, State, LGA, Facility & Workers)
Intuitive service tracking module with referral validation
CHW profile & performance tracking interface
Commodity dispensation logs linked to inventory usage
Real-time reporting interface for health indicators and coverage
UI support for multilingual & offline inputs

Impact

Simplified admin workflow across 4 levels of governance
Improved visibility into CHW performance and service coverage
Laid the foundation for full-scale national UAT and deployment
Enhanced accountability in community health referrals and supply management
Reflection
Designing for public health in low-resource settings taught me the importance of context-aware UX, progressive enhancement, and human-centered simplicity. I learned to bridge policy requirements and field realities through design.
