Overview 🔎

I was tasked to create a brand identity and UI/website design for a chess-based game brand. The audience was for kids aged 9 and up. The language was to be fun, colourful and kid-friendly, along with it being educational. However, I was also asked to keep in mind that parents would also be monitoring their children's activities on the website and the brand as a whole. Timeline: 2-3 weeks

Brief

1. Appeal to Parents and Kids (K12)

2. Bold colors and typography

3. Hatch on to 3 things - Learn, Play and Win

4. Reflect chess as a game of human intelligence

Process and Execution:

I came up with a colour palette and a playful logo to appeal to the target audience, while not making it too overbearing. It ended up being something that could resonate to the child-like innocence of the audience while making it friendly and approachable. Credits for also coming up with the name 'Chess Me Out' - an obvious pun related to chess and check me out!

Logo

I used the 'chess' crown as a main element in the branding.

Character Illustrations:

I created unique illustrations tied to the brand - fun, colourful and geometric characters that served as the face of the brand and the chess game. They served an important purpose in creating the brand persona and imparting educational content without making it boring. You know how kids are!

Website/UI Design:

Had a lot of fun with it and used the colour palette to seamlessly move from one topic to another, while checking the brief given. I further used the character illustrations to integrate interactiveness within the design.

I had great fun with this project - especially when it came to creating the characters! I was given full creative freedom over this and I love how it reflects my playful personality as well :)
