Overview 🔎

A Google-backed company, Sharechat, and Moj is one of the fastest homegrown (Indian) short video tech start-up app in the market. I worked there when it was only a month old and I have worked with a wonderful team on several aspects of it for 2 years to make it what it is today.

This in particular was the first successful on-ground event conducted by Moj India which gained a lot of traction from the media.

Brief ✍️

My team was asked to create an identity, print collaterals, and merchandise for an event that was to be conducted by the app. The point of this event was to have a talk show - one where successful creators on the app would be on a panel and would be able to engage their followers. This event was to create more hype and excitement for emerging creators/followers and promote the app offline.

The brief given was to create an identity that would signify that it was a talk show - or rather have strong elements suggesting the same. The tone was to be kept fun, lively, and friendly with playful elements and collaterals.

The Problem we faced: Once logo and identity explorations began, a problem came up. A talk show was one of the most common types of shows and we were finding it troublesome to come up with an identity that wasn't absolutely a cliche. However, at the same time, the event team wanted strong elements of 'talk' and 'chat' so there were several limitations there as well, so we couldn't experiment too much.

Process and Solution 🛣

Explorations: Some of the initial explorations involved using elements of lips talking, hands shaking, and of course chat boxes. However, everything still looked done and dusted. I then thought of using the Moj emojis, two of them in a trail format - one emoji is a creator - and one emerging creator or follower. Final version: The idea behind the final logo was to create a circle or a never-ending communication visual between creators and followers.

As said by Moj India themselves:

The secret to cracking great logos is balancing an insightful idea and simple execution. We recently hosted our first- ever , an event to facilitate communication between creators and followers. The speech bubbles, wobble effect and brand elements sum that up efficiently and aesthetically.

Patterns consisting of chat boxes, Moj emojis in a trail, and typography were created that were used for collaterals, which included stage designs, standees, photobooths, invites, and merchandise like T-shirts, stickers, and gift boxes. These patterns became part of the core identity of the event.

Speaking about MojTalks, Shashank Shekhar, Sr. Director – Content Strategy and Operations, Moj said,

Young creators need the right mentorship to build their digital career. Moj Talks is an effort to propel India’s talented creator ecosystem and equip them with the right knowledge. The idea is to mentor, aid and mold the creators of tomorrow. We are very excited with how the crowd participated in Delhi and look forward to the next event in Lucknow.”
