SmartMDM - designing for field agents on bad internet

Who this is for:
Enterprise or field-operations software where the end user is not sitting at a desk with good connectivity.
The situation
Telcos were spending upwards of $25,000 a month on SIM registration hardware with no visibility into where devices were, who was using them, or whether registrations were compliant. Vendors operated in a blind spot. The head office needed oversight; the field agent needed something that worked when the network did not.
What I actually did
Designed a cloud platform covering inventory, registrations, vendor access control, compliance reporting and agent workflows.
Designed offline-first for the agent-facing side. Registrations complete locally and sync when connectivity returns, with sync state made visible so an agent always knows whether their work is safe.
Kept the agent interface deliberately low-density and high-contrast - it is used outdoors, on cheap hardware, often one-handed, with a customer waiting.
Designed the compliance reporting layer for head office as a separate surface entirely, since the two users share data but share almost nothing else.
Designed vendor access controls so unauthorised device usage became structurally impossible rather than something to be detected after the fact.
How I worked
Three months. Grounded the work in how field agents actually operate rather than in the head-office picture of how they operate — the two were meaningfully different.
What the client reported afterwards
Figures reported by Seamfix Technologies following deployment.
4,000+ SIM registrations processed daily
Weekly registrations up 32%
Operational costs down 48%
Unauthorised device usage eliminated
Compliance reporting centralised and real-time
Stack:
Figma
SaaS platform design
Offline-first patterns
Device management architecture
Similar engagement today
Enterprise or field-operations platform design. Typically 5–9 weeks: field research, dual-surface architecture, offline-first patterns, admin and compliance reporting.
Typical investment: $7,000 – $12,000.
