Overview

I was tasked with working closely with the stakeholder in designing an AI driven ecommerce CMS with a dedicated, built-in multi-store management system that allows businesses owners to set up and customize a full scale shopping experience for their customers, users can set up sales channels that allows them to set up customer-specific and product-specific pricing, customisable theme with theme-builder, customer management, products and inventory management and other exciting features.
The CMS needed to be user-friendly, intuitive, and provide a seamless experience for both the store owner and their customers.

The Problem

In the past years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a huge increase in the number of eCommerce retailers in Israel. Many brick-and-mortar stores moved their operations online to continue selling while brick and mortar buildings were closed. The presence of Global retail giants, however, makes it challenging for smaller organizations not equipped to compete with them in terms of customer experience.

Solution

The goal for many in 2021 is how to scale up their omnichannel strategy, unify their customer and product data, give priority to mobile shopping experiences, create responsive sites, integrate, and synchronize sales and supply data, and product information and inventory in other to take advantage of the opportunities presented by this eCommerce boom. But how can they do so?
This is where illo can help. illo makes it easy for businesses to take their sales online. The set up is completely on the web with no software to install or hosting to procure, and the interface is intuitive for even non-technical users. Business can be up and running in a matter of days, not months or even years. Other eCommerce Platforms like Magento require the help of external agencies to set up losing businesses valuable time and money.

Research

Our team conducted user interviews and surveys to gain insights into the pain points and challenges that business owners face when managing their online stores. We also studied the existing ecommerce CMS platforms to understand their strengths and weaknesses.
From our research, we identified the following user needs:
Easily manage products and inventory
Quick and simple order processing
A dashboard with a clear overview of store performance
Customization options for branding and design
Integration with popular payment gateways and shipping providers
Clear and intuitive navigation

Design

With the user needs in mind, our team began the design process. We started with sketching out low-fidelity wireframes, then gradually moved onto high-fidelity mockups. We tested these designs with users to get feedback and make improvements.
Here are some key design decisions we made:
A clean and simple dashboard that provides an overview of store performance, order status, and inventory levels
A customizable theme that allows store owners to brand their store and make it unique
A simple and intuitive product management system that allows for easy product creation, inventory management, and order processing
A streamlined checkout process that allows customers to quickly and easily complete their orders
Integration with popular payment gateways and shipping providers

My Role

As the Senior User Experience Designer on the team, i worked closely with UX Researcher to carryout a user research for product and also conduct a Usability Audit of the previous release of the product, part of our objectives was to improve usability and add additional features which includes Customer Service, Marketing, Theme Builder and Product Category Customization.
My primary task was to design the entire UI experience for the product, it was challenging at first, as we had to iterate on multiple usecases and scenerarios that the users will encounter while using the product, by job got really easier with the support of the UX Researcher and the Customer Experience specialist on the team.

Implementation

After the design was finalized, our team began implementing the ecommerce CMS. We used a combination of front-end and back-end technologies to create a seamless user experience.
