Lento Travel • Designing a Mobile App for Slow Travel

Laura Vaugeois

Project Overview:

Lento Travel is a community-driven app dedicated to low-carbon and slow travel, empowering travelers to share their experiences, measure their environmental impact, and inspire each other to adopt more sustainable travel practices. Like Strava or AllTrails, Lento Travel allows users to track their journeys, monitor their performance (CO₂ saved, distance traveled, etc.), and share it with an engaged community.

Key Features:

Profile Customization - Users can create personalized profiles with travel preferences and save favorite routes, building their sustainable travel identity within the community.
Journey Tracking & Sharing - Automatic or manual trip recording allowing users to log routes with start/end points, transportation modes, and calculated CO₂ emissions. Users control privacy by choosing to share publicly or keep trips private.
Environmental Impact Dashboard - Centralized dashboard displaying activity history, progress metrics (total CO₂ emitted, CO₂ saved, Low Carbon Trip score), and personal performance over time.
Community Engagement - Social feed enabling users to connect, share experiences, like and comment on journeys.
Gamification & Motivation - Achievement system with badges and low-carbon goals designed to encourage and reward sustainable travel behaviors.

Process:

1. User Research & User Experience (UX) Development of user personas, storyboards, and customer journey maps to understand traveler needs and behaviors around sustainable travel.
2. User Interface Design (UI) Creation of a comprehensive UI kit defining the visual language, components, and design system for the app.
3. Wireframes & Mockups Design of wireframes and high-fidelity mockups to visualize user flows and validate the experience before development. (see screenshot below)
4. Development of the MVP on FlutterFlow Built the app using FlutterFlow, a low-code platform for creating and deploying mobile applications. To quickly launch a first version, gather initial feedback, and conduct user testing, I focused on implementing essential core features. This MVP (Minimum Viable Product) approach allowed me to develop the app efficiently while delivering real value to users with targeted, streamlined functionality.
