Meet nuw - a thrift swapping app that fuels a positive and fun movement towards sustainable and affordable fashion.

The concept is simple. You upload an unwanted clothing item and earn a coin. With this coin, you can request another item from another user and get it delivered to your doorstep.

Originally embraced in Ireland and the UK, the company’s sights are set on a pivotal step - launching in the US.

The Challenge

While Depop and Vinted primarily revolve around selling unwanted clothing items, Nuw takes a distinctive approach by focusing on swapping. However, it's not the typical one-on-one trade where you exchange items with another user. Instead, it introduces a novel concept: you upload an unwanted clothing item, earn a coin, and select something else from the community's inventory.
Our challenge was twofold: effectively conveying this unique concept to both new and existing users and transforming the app into a thriving and engaging community to encourage active participation and regular return visits.

Before

The Brief

Design a logistics feature to facilitate swaps within the US market. Enhance the user experience with a specific emphasis on community-building. Both will play a pivotal role in improving customer retention and increasing conversion rates.

What I did

Led the design of their logistic feature to cater for US-based users - from user research to usability testing
Enhanced user experience of key interfaces such as home, profile and listing screens during growth sprints
Crafted a visual style that appeals to the app's target audience: young females from the millennial and Gen Z generations
