KEEPLI is warm, observant, gentle, and quietly optimistic.
The character needed to feel supportive without becoming childish, overly expressive, or intrusive. Its personality is calm enough to live inside a reflective product, but distinctive enough to become memorable.
The paper note body represents ideas, memories, and personal fragments.
The lavender pocket represents protection and care.
The coral paperclip creates a recognizable visual signature and connects the character to the custom wordmark.
The mustard side tab adds warmth and makes the silhouette easier to recognize at small sizes.
The keepsakes inside the pocket show that KEEPLI is not an abstract mascot. The character has a clear purpose and a visible relationship with the product concept.
The Design Challenge
The main challenge was not creating one attractive character.
The real challenge was building a system that could remain recognizable across different poses, expressions, sizes, interfaces, and physical applications.
A successful mascot system needs more than a consistent color palette. It needs a fixed visual logic.
For KEEPLI, the following elements remain stable across every state:
The body silhouette
The facial proportions
The lavender pocket
The coral paperclip
The mustard tab
The dark navy limbs
The core color palette
The keepsake illustration language
Only the pose, expression, and contextual action change.
This creates emotional flexibility without losing character recognition.
Sticker System
The sticker collection translates KEEPLI’s personality into short emotional messages.
The set includes greetings, encouragement, care, celebration, reassurance, and memory related moments.
Examples include:
HI!
BIG HUG
YOU DID IT!
SO PROUD
TOUGH DAY
TAKE CARE
BREATHE
SAVED IT
Each sticker uses the same approved character system, but changes the pose, expression, and supporting prop to communicate a different emotional message.
The stickers were designed to work inside messaging, social content, onboarding moments, notifications, and community interactions.
Physical Application
The physical system extends KEEPLI beyond the screen.
The keepsake kit includes a memory sleeve, an envelope, a sticker sheet, and small printed objects designed to hold notes, photos, tickets, and personal reminders.
This application supports the original idea of the project.
Some memories are digital. Some are physical. The mascot system should be able to connect both.
The physical kit also proves that the character can remain recognizable outside the mobile interface and function as part of a broader brand world.
Process
The process began with the product idea and the emotional role of the mascot.
The character was then developed through silhouette exploration, personality definition, visual signature selection, emotional state design, and consistency testing.
After the core mascot was approved, the system expanded into:
Character states
Wordmark design
App icon development
Sticker applications
Mobile product screens
Physical product applications
Final presentation and art direction
The core visual assets were created using Recraft Studio and refined into one coherent system.
Result
The final result is a complete mascot system that works consistently across a mobile product, brand identity, stickers, and physical applications.
KEEPLI is recognizable through silhouette, color, behavior, and visual details.
The character has a clear personality, a clear role, and a clear connection to the product concept.
The system is flexible enough to support different emotional moments, but controlled enough to remain visually consistent.
Most importantly, KEEPLI does not feel added to the product after the fact.
The mascot is part of the product idea, the interface, the brand language, and the emotional experience.
My Approach to Mascots in Mobile Apps
I have worked on more than 350 mobile apps, and I approach mascots as strategic product assets.
A strong mascot can improve:
Product recognition
Emotional connection
Onboarding clarity
User guidance
Progress feedback
Brand consistency
Retention focused communication
Community engagement
Gamification
Social and marketing content
But only when the character has a defined function.
The most effective mascots are not placed everywhere.
They appear at the right moment, with the right expression, and for a clear reason.
They support the interface instead of competing with it.
They create continuity between product, brand, and communication.
They make an experience easier to remember.
KEEPLI was created with exactly this approach.
About the Project
My portfolio already includes mascots created for real mobile products, including character based interfaces and gamification systems developed with Recraft.
KEEPLI is an original author project created specifically for the Recraft × Contra Mascot Challenge.
The project combines mascot design, mobile product strategy, UI UX design, brand identity, gamification, sticker design, and art direction into one cohesive system.
