Decrediton Wallet

Decrediton is Decred’s desktop wallet, bringing together payments, staking and participation in the project’s decisions. My contribution began with early wallet design in 2016 and extended into Decrediton. I led the design work and the wider team of design contributors, helping turn emerging technical capabilities into a product people could navigate with confidence.

Many of Decred’s novel capabilities first existed as command-line functions. We translated them into interfaces that explained what was happening, what an action would do and what responsibility remained with the person using the wallet. We designed one of the first user-friendly interfaces for cryptocurrency staking, making Decred’s ticket-based system approachable. People could buy tickets, follow their progress and understand how participation worked.

Privacy and security features brought similar challenges. Clear explanations, contextual guidance and feedback helped people use advanced tools, with particular care around managing their own keys. The work also extended to Decred’s own Lightning Network implementation, bringing faster, lower-cost payments into the wallet. Shared navigation and interaction patterns connected these workflows while preserving the depth experienced users needed.

Calm layouts, typography and restrained motion helped organise dense information and explain changes in state. Light, dark and high-contrast options addressed different viewing needs. Onboarding and guidance supported learning where decisions arose. Work across Decrediton and Politeia also informed pi-ui, the UI design system for related products, giving contributors shared components, visual rules and interaction patterns.
