Scott Carver wanted a clearer way to explain its thinking to clients, staff and people it hoped to work with. We built the identity around the equals sign: a simple device for connecting words, numbers, symbols and images.
Most of the system was black and white, which suited the practice’s direct, text-led way of communicating. Colour appeared sparingly, like punctuation. A flexible grid kept very different projects and formats feeling related.
The architects and designers could use the system themselves to present projects and explain their thinking. At Alphabet, I worked on the design and motion. The identity stayed in use until the practice became Studio.SC in 2024.
