Designing for Decred meant bringing clarity and consistency to a system that was still taking shape.
The DCR symbol was built to be immediate and adaptable.
Simple enough to sketch. Distinct enough to stand next to global currency marks. The identity system was set up as an open framework. Contributors and teams could use it and extend it without breaking consistency.
The work went beyond visuals. It established a shared foundation across:
communication
interfaces
contributor-built tools
Wallets, governance tools, and community outputs all operated within the same system. Launched in 2017, it gave the project a consistent way to present itself as it grew.

The identity supported multiple major releases without needing to be reworked. It scaled with the product over time.
We designed the DCR symbol to function like a global currency mark – instantly recognizable, easy to reproduce by hand, and structurally consistent across type styles and mediums. As an ambigram, it remains clear when rotated or mirrored, reinforcing its flexibility and distinct form.
Beyond the symbol, we built a flexible design system: a set of tools, principles, and assets that let contributors stay consistent while adapting the brand to new use cases. It became the foundation for Decred’s evolution– supporting product UI, communications, and ecosystem tools.
Over time, the main site went through several iterations. Each version refined how Decred was positioned as it matured, moving closer to clearly expressing its vision and values to both technical and non-technical audiences.
We also created a range of visual materials—from a signature style for contributor to key release motion graphics. Over time, these evolved into a common style of 3D abstractions that helped represent how the technology works under the hood.
Co-authored the brand identity and led design across the project. Worked across releases including wallet and governance interfaces, ensuring a consistent system across products.
