Mobile App Design for Parents and Guardians - Shelf 21
While it is true that the primary users of this application will mainly be parents; older folks it is good to keep the designs simple and as aesthetically pleasing as possible with a minimal approach.
Home Screen
This shows the parents basic but important information regarding their children and wards. Some of such information include; Outstanding fees if any, upcoming events as well as class schedules for their children. Should a parent have more than one child in the school, there is an option to toggle to switch between the wards.
Class Activities
The class activities allows the parents to take a little dive into the materials that are available for their children to consume, vital information regarding the classes, teachers as well as study materials they can use to teach their children at home should they want to.
Grades and Attendance
This allows the parents to closely track and monitor their children. From grades to subjects to the attendance and of course an avenue to request for a leave off school for their child/ward in events of emergencies of any kind.
Events
Parents get informed about the most recent upcoming events happening in the school. Graduation, examination and every other important information that the parent needs to be aware of. They can view event details and also RSVP.
Profile
Basic information about the user is captured here. Help and support as well as the frequently asked questions a parent may have regarding the school or the system.

Challenges

The project is one that took three months to complete and during the course of that time, a few of the challenges faced are;
Scope Creep: Over time, the project requirements began to expand beyond the original scope, leading to increased workload and potential delays.
Design Evolution: The design evolve based on new insights, or changes in business goals.
Emotional and Mental Fatigue: Working on a long project can lead to burnout or decreased motivation, affecting productivity and creativity.

Lessons Learnt

Having engaged in this project, some invaluable lessons were learnt which will be passed on in other designs.
Stakeholder Engagement: Maintained regular communication with stakeholders to manage expectations and gather feedback. Involve key stakeholders early in the process to ensure alignment and buy-in.
Communication and Collaboration: Scheduled regular check-ins and update meetings to keep everyone on the same page.
