MoBU — Modern Bucharest Art Fair: A Scalable Webflow Experience for Art and Design

Project Overview

Client: MoBU (Modern Bucharest Art Fair) Platform: Webflow Goal: Build a fully dynamic, content-driven website for Romania’s largest contemporary art fair — showcasing artists, galleries, events, and yearly editions through an intuitive, elegant experience. Role: Web Designer & Webflow Developer

About the Project

Working on MoBU was one of the most fulfilling and creative experiences I’ve had in Webflow. The project aimed to create a digital space that connects artists, galleries, and visitors, while positioning MoBU as a landmark art event for Bucharest.
The design direction was inspired by the brand’s existing logo — a bold red mark representing energy, passion, and cultural vibrancy. From there, I built a complete brand guideline and moodboard, defining white and red as the dominant colors to emphasize contrast, clarity, and emotion.

Challenges

Massive CMS structure — over 100 dynamic items, including:
Individual artist pages
Gallery profiles
Event listings and editions (2023, 2024, 2025)
Complex relationships — each edition dynamically pulls artists, galleries, and events relevant to that year.
Advanced functionality:
Add-to-calendar integration for upcoming events
Countdown timer to the fair opening
Interactive Google Maps with quick navigation to galleries
Custom forms for participation, press, and contact
Responsiveness — ensuring the experience stays seamless on all devices despite the amount of dynamic data.
Performance optimization — managing large CMS collections without slowing down the site.

Approach & Process

1. Visual Direction & Brand Identity

Started from the logo provided by the client.
Built out a brand style guide: typography, color palette (white, red, black accents), and layout rules.
Created mockups and a mood board to establish tone and emotion — clean, bold, and modern.

2. UX & Structure

Planned the full CMS architecture in Webflow, with clear relationships between:
Artists
Galleries
Events
Editions (2023–2025)
Ensured scalability — easy to add future editions or new artists without breaking structure.

3. Development

Developed dynamic templates for each CMS item type.
Integrated form submissions for contact, participation, and event inquiries.
Added countdown logic to display time remaining until the next edition.
Embedded Google Maps API with interactive pins and navigation links.
Implemented Add to Calendar features for events.
Optimized all images and assets for performance.

4. Responsiveness & Accessibility

Designed mobile-first layouts — the site adapts beautifully across all screen sizes.
Ensured high contrast and readability for all text and UI elements.

5. Testing & Launch

Collaborated closely with the MoBU team for feedback and iteration.
The entire process was smooth and creative — the team gave me the freedom to experiment and refine the visual identity.
