In Sumikkogurashi Farm, players enter a calm, cozy world where cute characters cultivate crops and build their dream farm. But the first step—the sign-up screen—was creating friction.
The original onboarding flow used pre-generated usernames and passwords, which felt cold, outdated, and even unsafe. I reimagined this process to be more trustworthy, user-friendly, and in tune with the game’s warm tone, while also protecting the integrity of secure logins.
The Challenge:
Loss of Player Trust
Auto-generated login credentials raised doubts about privacy and data safety.
Rigid Flow = Frustration
With no option to personalize login info, players felt disconnected and were more likely to abandon.
Security vs. Simplicity
The challenge was balancing technical safety with the brand’s friendlyandfrictionless tone.
My Strategic Approach:
1. Framed Account Creation as an Onboarding Win
I reframed the sign-up screen from a “form-filling task” into a personalization moment—a soft launchpad into the game’s identity.
A secure login isn’t just about protection. It’s about belonging and giving the player their own name on the farm.
2. User Control = User Confidence
Letting players choose their own username and password created psychological ownership and a stronger emotional tie to the game world.
This small shift:
Built trust
Reduced confusion
Signaled professionalism + care
3. Friendly Tone with Built-In Safety Language
I crafted gentle microcopy that both reassured and educated the player.
The tone was inviting and whimsical, but rooted in user psychology: clarity + warmth = safety.
Results (Projected Outcomes)
While concept-based, these changes align with proven UX principles and likely lead to:
User Trust: Player info feels protected and personalized
Drop-Offs: Fewer players quit at the very first step
Retention: Emotional attachment is built from the beginning
Conversion: Guest players may be more likely to register later
Why It Matters:
This project shows how UX writing is often the first impression of your brand—and in onboarding, the stakes are high.
By shifting the sign-up from something rigid and unwelcoming to something playful and secure, I helped:
Build emotional connection
Guide players with clarity
Reduce churn, increase retention
