I gather information before preparing the Job Description (JD), and focus more on the Keywords.
Detailed conversation with Client
Before starting, I prefer having a detailed conversation with the client to understand their expectations and clear all doubts.
I also speak to one or 2 people working in the same role to understand their role. (This helps a lot)
I divide the KRAs into 2 segments
Primary KRAs are the main responsibilities that are written clearly and concisely.
Secondary KRAs are where things can be negotiated
Optimize the major keywords while i specify the Skillsets
Specify the technical skills along with the level of expertise needed for the role
Soft skills are equally important, so mentioning them is crucial for me.
Mention the necessary educational qualifications and any preferred certifications.
Emphasize Company Culture and Values
Describing the company's culture, values, mission, beliefs and benefits attracts a lot of talent pool, so I never miss doing that.
A Clear Call to Action
I provide clear instructions on how to apply, including any specific documents or information required.
Also, I ensure that candidates know whom to contact for more information or to follow up on their application.
Lastly, I proofread and review it.
Get feedback from the hiring manager to ensure the JD accurately reflects the role and its requirements.
