TL;DR

PerchPeek, a UK startup, aimed to simplify relocations with their app. However, users avoided the lengthy, poorly formatted articles in the Relocation Library, seeking direct assistance instead. I led the redesign, creating readable modules like Tips and To-Do lists. The Carousel provided quick overviews, and the Quiz offered personalized information. A WebApp version and a custom Content Manager were added for improved accessibility and content management. The redesign empowered users and reduced reliance on Relocation Coaches.

Project Overview

PerchPeek is a startup from the UK that provides personalized, tech-driven relocation support to individuals and employers. They aimed to revolutionize the relocation experience, guiding users through every stage of their move. Their app offered access to a Relocation Library, a comprehensive repository of relocation-related information. However, users were not engaging with the library, leading to a high dependency on Relocation Coaches for support. The challenge was to redesign the Relocation Library to make it more user-friendly, informative, and capable of promoting self-service relocation solutions.

The "Why?"

The relocation process can be overwhelming and stressful, involving numerous tasks, decisions, and uncertainties. PerchPeek believed in using technology to simplify, expedite, and enhance the relocation journey. By making the Relocation Library more accessible, they sought to empower users with valuable information, allowing them to feel in control during the relocation process. The redesigned library would serve as a valuable self-service resource, reducing reliance on Relocation Coaches and improving the overall user experience.

The Challenge

The primary challenge was the underutilization of the Relocation Library. Users found the lengthy, poorly formatted articles unappealing, leading to low engagement and reliance on the Relocation Coaches. This created an unsustainable model, as more users would necessitate a proportional increase in coaches. To overcome this, the library had to become more engaging and user-friendly. Additionally, with the shift to a WebApp system, designing a seamless desktop version became crucial. Finally, managing a growing variety of content required an efficient and user-friendly Content Manager tool.

The Process

The design process began with thorough research, including user interviews and data analysis. Understanding user behavior and pain points was key to identifying opportunities for improvement. We focused on creating an MVP level solution, making articles more readable and user-friendly. The process involved extensive research on readability, typography, and accessibility. I introduced modules like Tips, To-Do lists, and FAQ Accordions, enabling users to find vital information quickly and efficiently.

MVP Level

The MVP level redesign focused on improving the readability of articles. By analyzing the content, we identified specific types of information that were vital to users and designed modules to present them effectively. These modules included Tips for movers, To-Do lists, FAQ Accordions, and more. Additional functionalities like Adding to Favorites and Requesting Help enhanced user control and engagement. The reorganization of content into categories improved navigability.

The Carousel

To facilitate quick access to key information, we implemented the Carousel feature. Users were presented with 2-4 screens containing helpful illustrations and essential details before diving into the full article. This feature helped users decide whether they needed to explore the entire article or find immediate answers without overwhelming them.

The Quiz

To address information overload, we introduced the Quiz feature. Users answered a few questions, and the system pinpointed relevant information. For instance, if a user had a cat, the system would filter out information relevant only to cat owners during the pet relocation process, avoiding unnecessary scrolling and saving time.

WebApp

With the transition to a WebApp system, we designed a seamless desktop version. Users could access the app and its features from any desktop or mobile device, enhancing convenience and accessibility.

Content Manager

To streamline content creation and management, we developed a custom Content Manager tool. It enabled easy article creation, editing, and addition of new elements to the Carousel. This tool drastically improved content quality, making it easier to serve valuable information to users.

Summary

The PerchPeek Relocation Library redesign significantly enhanced the user experience during the relocation process. By focusing on readability, modularization, and additional features like Carousel and Quiz, we transformed the library into an engaging and efficient self-service resource. The WebApp version further extended accessibility, while the custom Content Manager simplified content management for the team. Through collaboration, research, and thoughtful design, we successfully empowered users to navigate their relocations with confidence, reducing dependence on Relocation Coaches and creating a positive impact on their journey to a new country.
