Building a Professional Identity for a Joint Venture

HL-DCB JV, LLC required a visual identity for a newly formed federal construction joint venture. The objective was to create a professional mark that reflected structural engineering, collaboration, and government contracting while remaining highly legible across proposals, presentations, and printed documents.
Rather than designing only a logo, I developed a visual identity system that establishes consistency across future proposal materials, presentations, and brand communications.

A Logo Built Around Structure

The final mark avoids common construction clichés such as buildings, cranes, and hard hats. Instead, it uses an abstract structural form inspired by engineered framing and load-bearing geometry to communicate stability, partnership, and precision.
The logo was designed to remain recognizable at small sizes while reproducing cleanly across digital documents, proposal covers, signage, and print.

Establishing the Brand Foundation

The identity system pairs a restrained color palette with a modern geometric typeface to create a professional appearance suitable for federal contracting.
The blue communicates trust and reliability, while the construction brown references materials, infrastructure, and craftsmanship. Avenir Next provides a clean typographic hierarchy that balances technical precision with readability.

Creating a Consistent Visual Language

Beyond the logo, I developed a set of reusable graphic elements derived directly from the structural icon.
These components become section dividers, page accents, image frames, presentation graphics, and background patterns, allowing future documents to feel cohesive without relying on repetitive logo placement.
This approach transforms a single logo into a scalable communication system.

Custom Iconography

To support proposals and technical documentation, I designed a family of flat construction icons using the same visual language as the identity.
The icon set covers common construction and engineering concepts while maintaining consistent stroke weight, geometry, and color usage throughout the system.

Applying the Identity

The final identity extends beyond the logo into practical business applications, including proposal covers, business cards, presentation templates, and document layouts.
These examples demonstrate how the visual system creates consistency across every client touchpoint while remaining flexible enough for future federal pursuits.
