Tool: Articulate Storyline 360
Type: Screen Recording / Software Demonstration
Audience: First-time internet users, senior citizens in digital literacy programs, NGO workers teaching email basics to rural communities
The Problem
Digital literacy gaps prevent many users from accessing essential online services. For seniors, first-time internet users, or those with limited digital exposure, the Gmail signup process can feel overwhelming. Text-based instructions fail because users don't know what "click here" means on an unfamiliar interface - they need to see the actual process, step by step, with clear visual guidance.
Learning Objectives
• Navigate to the Gmail signup page independently
• Complete each required field in the signup form correctly
• Follow a multi-step account creation process from start to finish
• Understand the sequence of steps needed to create an email account
My Design Decisions
• Why screen recording over written instructions?
Visual demonstration eliminates ambiguity - learners see exactly where to click on the real Gmail interface, not a mockup. One walkthrough teaches more than paragraphs of text ever could.
• Why step-by-step mode instead of video?
Individual slides allow learners to pause and review each action at their own pace. Video forces linear watching, which doesn't work for learners who need extra time on specific steps.
• Why edit the auto-generated captions?
Storyline's auto-captions describe actions rather than teach them. Changing "Click text input" to "Step 1: Enter Your First Name" transforms description into instruction.
• Why auto-advance slides?
Removing the next button simulates a smooth, guided demonstration - learners follow along naturally without decision fatigue between every step.
Technical Highlights
• Screen recording in step-by-step mode - auto-generated individual slides per action
• Auto-generated yellow highlight boxes drawing attention to click areas
• Edited captions for instructional clarity throughout
• Auto-advance timeline for seamless demonstration flow
• Clean scene management - removed unused mockup slides, kept only real recording
What I Learned
This project showed me that screen recording is deceptively powerful - one deliberate three-minute recording generated eight or more instructional slides automatically. It also taught me that auto-generated content is a starting point, not a finished product. Editing captions to be genuinely instructional rather than just descriptive is what separates a useful tutorial from a basic screen capture.

Gmail Account Setup – Interactive Try Mode is a practice-based software simulation that allows learners to actively complete each step of creating a Gmail account by interacting with on-screen elements. Unlike guided tutorials, this module requires users to click the correct areas within recorded screens to progress. Correct selections move the lesson forward, while incorrect actions trigger immediate feedback for guided learning. This interaction-driven approach helps learners build confidence by practicing each step in a simulated environment before performing the task independently. FEATURES: -Interactive click validation -Correct/incorrect feedback layers -Practice-based progression -Real screen capture -Visual highlights STEPS COVERED: Accessing signup page Entering information Choosing a username Creating password Completing setup SKILLS DEMONSTRATED: Try Mode interaction Feedback layers Click validation Screen recording Practice-based learning Software simulation
