Type: Scored Quiz with Conditional Feedback
Audience: Gaming enthusiasts, gaming journalism students, sales teams in gaming retail
The Problem
Knowledge retention in gaming education is often passive - learners read articles or watch videos but have no way to validate their understanding. Without assessment, learners can't identify knowledge gaps and educators can't measure learning effectiveness. This project solves that by creating a scored quiz with personalized, constructive feedback that explains not just what is wrong, but why.
Learning Objectives
• Define key gaming terminology including FPS, open-world, and AAA
• Identify major gaming companies and their flagship products
• Recognize industry milestones and historical facts
• Self-assess gaming knowledge level through actionable results feedback
My Design Decisions
• Why a scored quiz over a survey?
Assessment validates learning rather than just presenting information. A score creates a measurable outcome - learners know exactly where they stand, not just what they encountered.
• Why three result tiers instead of pass/fail?
Pass, Maybe, and Fail reflect a realistic performance spectrum. A learner who scores 2 out of 5 needs different feedback than someone who scores 0 - collapsing both into "fail" loses that instructional opportunity.
• Why explanatory feedback on wrong answers?
Every wrong answer is a teaching moment. Feedback that explains why an answer is incorrect turns a quiz into a learning experience, not just a measurement tool.
• Why Add instead of Set for the score variable? T
his was discovered through a real bug - using Set caused the score to always display as the maximum on replay. Add accumulates correctly across slides. Learning this distinction the hard way made it permanent.
Technical Highlights
• Score variable using Add (+1) logic to accumulate correctly across all questions
• Conditional triggers comparing final score to thresholds for three result layers
• Correct and incorrect feedback layers per question with explanatory content
• Dynamic %Score% text reference on results slide
• Variable reset to zero on retry enabling unlimited attempts
What I Learned
This was my first introduction to number variables, and it immediately showed me how powerful conditional logic is as an instructional design tool. Using IF/THEN logic means designing genuinely different experiences for different learners - not just showing everyone the same ending. The Set vs Add bug also taught me something I carry into every project since: precise trigger logic is not optional, it is the foundation everything else builds on.
