UniCard is a mobile-first digital rewards platform designed to consolidate loyalty programs from various retail partners into a single, seamless experience. It empowers users to effortlessly earn points from everyday purchases, track spending, and convert those points into tangible cash or rewards.
As the UI/UX Designer for this app, the goal was to create an intuitive, engaging, and trustworthy app that simplifies how users interact with loyalty programs and makes earning rewards an instant, gratifying part of their daily commute and shopping.

The Challenge: Fragmented Loyalty & Untapped Value

Consumers are often overwhelmed by numerous individual store loyalty cards and apps, leading to unused points and a disconnected rewards experience. Retailers, in turn, seek more effective ways to engage customers and digitize loyalty without the heavy lift of building standalone apps. UniCard aimed to address this by:
Providing a unified platform for users to earn and manage points from multiple retailers.
Offering instant gratification with real-time transactions and points reflection.
Enabling easy conversion of points to cash, making rewards feel more tangible and valuable.
Simplifying loyalty program integration for partner stores through a seamless POS connection.

For Users:

For Unicard:
For UniCard as a company, the intuitive design is projected to drive rapid user adoption and high partner acquisition rates, validating the core concept and securing a strong market entry. The focus on seamless POS integration and instant user gratification is set to differentiate UniCard in the competitive rewards landscape.

My Approach: Designing a Seamless & Rewarding Financial Companion

My approach was grounded in extensive research into user behaviors and existing market gaps, which directly informed my decision-making. This research led to key design contributions focused on creating a seamless and intuitive experience: frictionless onboarding, real-time transaction and points visibility, easy points-to-cash conversion, and a clean, trustworthy interface designed to feel more like a financial product than just a rewards card, ensuring ease of use and daily engagement. Key design contributions included:
Frictionless Onboarding & Secure Access:
I designed a clear and inviting onboarding sequence to quickly communicate UniCard's value proposition, such as "Convert Points to Funds." I then implemented a straightforward login/sign-up process, offering options for email, Google, and Apple sign-in, followed by a simple profile completion. To ensure secure access, I designed the password and passcode setup with clear validation criteria.
Intuitive Dashboard & Points Management:
I created a central dashboard/home screen that prominently displays the user's loyalty points balance, total earned, and points redeemed, alongside quick links and relevant deals. I also designed clear visual hierarchies so users could easily track points earned per store and understand their overall rewards status.
Real-time Transaction Visibility & Digital Receipts:
I conceptualized how transactions from partner POS systems would instantly reflect within the app, providing users with immediate feedback and points updates. I focused on ensuring transaction listings were clear, showing the store, items (implied), amount spent, and points earned for each purchase.
Simplified Points Conversion & Fund Management:
I designed an accessible "Convert Points" feature, enabling users to easily turn their loyalty points into cash within their UniCard wallet or linked bank account. I also included functionality for users to add their bank cards/accounts and top up their UniCard balance through various payment methods like Apple Pay, PayPal, and Google Pay.
Partner Discovery & Engagement:
To help users find participating businesses, I integrated a map feature allowing them to discover stores and carwashes nearby, complete with location details and directions. I also designed ways to showcase deals and promotions from these partner businesses.
Comprehensive Account & Security Management:
I ensured users had easy access to manage their profile information, preferences, and crucial security settings, such as changing their password, enabling Face ID, and adjusting privacy settings. This also included intuitive controls for notifications, access to FAQs, and a clear path to contact support. I designed clear notification screens for important account activity and promotions.
