Scrub Mommy Social media Post

Destiny Moore

This was my most goofy idea yet. I have been seeing posts from Scrub Daddy and realised they all have quite a meme-like format. I decided I should have a go because it's a style I have not yet attempted in my portfolio. Equally, I am a bit of a jokester, so it's criminal that I haven't capitalised on that yet. The template for this meme stayed the same, but I did different text content. I wanted to design a social media post that reads like a meme but manages to entertain rather than make people cringe.
I tried to research what the font is in the Scrub Daddy logo, and the best match I found was Kumiz. For the colours, I took these directly off the logo. I wanted the text to match the logo so that it is clear it's Scrub Daddy/Mommy material. I think i got a reasonable match, and it gives the memes a more personal feel than generic black and white text.
When I was thinking about what memes I could pull from, the first thing I thought of was the Long Nails Long Lashes meme. For those not in the know, it's basically an emoji or character with the aforementioned traits that just appears sassy—usually with an equally sassy comment. I went this route simply because I thought it would be funny.
Continuing with the theme, I wondered what I could convey in a sassy manner. This led me to think of the "slay" "meme—"slay" comes from the gay/drag community and just means that something is very good. I wanted to convey that Scrub Mommy is a good product, so this seemed the perfect match, hence the phrase "Slay mommy.". This led to my first design—pictured below.
My second design was a similar vibe to the first. Another point of the Long Nails Long Lashes meme is the idea that the character looks good. I thought this would be a funny personality to give to a Scrub Mommy, so I came up with some text to represent this. I wanted to get across that this is a cleaning product, but that it's different because it looks good; you've got to admit, a pink smiley sponge is pretty striking! I tried to portray the idea that the product is functional and aesthetic, but I also wanted to maintain the element of sass. My idea was to make the text almost condescending; a product can be useful and look good, and it's "your" fault for not considering that. the term "sweetie" is the star here for sure.
My final design of this concept also relies on condescension. This time, it talks about "serving looks"; again, this is from the gay/drag community, and it just means looking good. This design is very similar to the previous one in terms of vibe, but I wanted to play around with phrasing. To me, this one reads the most like a drag queen, and I kind of love that. They are notoriously funny people, and I think it's fun to capture that in copy. Again, it focuses on the idea of multitasking and makes things that can't "do both" seem bad in comparison. I'll admit, I had a lot of fun with this one. I like the idea of Scrub Mommy being this queen of sass.

I created a playful Scrub Daddy meme inspired by the sassy Long Nails Long Lashes trend. It was a fun way to explore meme-style design in my portfolio!
