Filmsupply.com — The global leader in cinematic footage licensing

Filmsupply, a cinematic footage licensing agency, saw the need to elevate its eCommerce experience to help its customers discover relevant footage with more ease. My role was to enhance the "speed of discovery" within the existing search experience, optimize the checkout process to reduce friction and combat cart abandonment, and revamp the interface design making it more functional and raising its visual appeal.

RESULTS

  • 85% increase in on-site revenue within the first 12 months.
  • 35% increase in the average clip number per cart.
  • 66% reduction in time to purchase.

Supercharging search

Guided by user insights and customer feedback, I identified pain points and avenues for improvement in Filmsupply's search functionality. Building upon this insight, I streamlined the search experience by introducing key product features.

True Aspect Ratios

By incorporating aspect ratios into the search grid, filmmakers can quickly locate the exact aspect ratio they're looking for.

Hover Scrub (shift⇧)

Hover Scrub allows filmmakers to quickly scrub any thumbnail within the search grid by holding down the command key.

Quick Preview (Cmd ⌘)

Quick previews allow filmmakers to use the command key to show large footage previews within the search grid.

Search by Clip

"More Like This" allows the customer to look for similar clips and expand their options in the same direction.

Preview Clips From the Same Shoot

One of Filmsupply's competitive advantages is providing access to footage from scenes or shoots with the same talent, locations and/or themes, allowing filmmakers to create stories with cohesive footage.

Save Filter Sets

Custom filter sets provide a way for users to save personalized filter combinations for future searches.

Organize by Projects

Projects provide the ability for filmmakers to organize footage, collaborate, and send private links for client approvals.

Light & Dark Mode

To address issues like eye strain and provide a better viewing experience for editors working in dimly lit rooms I introduced dark mode.

Minimizing the time to purchase

In response to cart abandonment concerns, I examined the customer journey. This led us to implement multiple pathways and refinements aligned with our gathered research.

Guest Checkout

In order to eliminate friction during purchase, I opted to institute a path for those without an account to check out and finish creating their account after the purchase was complete.

Streamlining the License Logger

Because Filmsupply is a rights-managed licensing agency, this meant the information intake for a proper license was numerous. I was able to limit information requests along the path so that it was not overwhelming and the feeling of progress compounded at each step.

Bulk Checkout from Projects

Organizing footage into a project allowed filmmakers to create mood boards and private links for clients to review. Once approved filmmakers are able to add all the project clips to the cart and log the license in bulk.

Measurable results

After the launch of the Filmsupply.com new site, Filmsupply saw remarkable improvements in the eCommerce experience, resulting in measurable results:

  • 85% increase in on-site revenue within the first 12 months.
  • 35% increase in the average clip number per cart.
  • 66% reduction in time to purchase.
