Moon Shave - A booking app that had to feel like the shop
Barbershop apps usually land in one of two places. Either they're generic booking software with a logo dropped on top, or they're so styled that finding an open Tuesday slot takes four taps too many. The first loses the reason people picked this barber. The second loses the booking.
Moon Shave has been open since 2008, and the identity leans into that: a bearded profile inside a crescent, a red that reads as barber pole rather than tech accent, and the founding year set beneath the wordmark where it can't be missed.
The app carries that into a near-black interface. Dark is the right call here for a reason beyond mood booking happens on a phone, often in the evening, and a dark UI puts nothing between the photograph and the eye. Real shop photography fills the login screen, so the first thing a user sees is the room they're about to sit in.
Then the design gets out of the way. Red is reserved almost entirely for one thing: the action. Login, the selected date, the chosen time slot, Book an Appointment. Everything else stays in flat charcoal cards with thin dividers, so the eye lands on the next step without hunting.
The whole flow sign in, pick a day, pick a time, book sits in four screens.
A service app's job is to disappear at exactly the moment the user is ready to commit.
