Rankings Drop Recovery after a Google Update

Richard Mclachlan

At a critical point in their business operations, my new client's website traffic had just tanked. A contract with a large site sponsor had been signed. Revenue was traffic dependant. Traffic plummeted by 75% after a Google Update. My job? Turn things around ASAP.
What I did. a. Analysed all the possible issues. Hacking, technical, spam, breaching Google's rules. b. Narrowed it down to content quality. Too repetitive, too obviously AI, not overly useful. c. I redid all the content with my own AI solution so it was far better, niche leading. d. I quickly also built some better content filtering/searching so users had an easier time using the site. e. Decreased load times by 80%. f. Redid the UX for the mobile site.
This was an emergency fix, and had to all be done in 3 weeks. A marketplace with over 100,000 listings, all needed to be redone.
The fixes were in place within the 3 week deadline, the site recovery commenced shortly after. Now, 10 weeks after the traffic fall, traffic is running at 40% above previous highs.

The client's website took an 80% traffic tumble due to a Google update. I was hired to solve it before their clients became aware of the traffic drop.
