Brand Identity Development for Competing SEZs in Africa
An Integrated Industrial Platforms (IIP) client tasked me and my team with creating two distinct brand identities for upcoming Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in competing African countries. The key challenge was integrating IIP's core brand elements into both identities while ensuring they remained distinct competitors.
Steps Taken:
Identifying Differentiating Elements: We analyzed the core values and unique attributes of each SEZ to establish clear differentiators.
Strategic Collaboration: Working closely with the team, we devised a unique nomenclature approach to ensure both brands were aligned yet distinct.
Logo Design: Developed logo concepts that adhered to IIP's branding guidelines, while emphasizing the unique identities of each SEZ.
The decision-making process involved local government authorities and CXO-level executives, making it a high-stakes project. Our team’s strategic approach and refined designs led to the final selections within just two iterations—a remarkable achievement given the high level of stakeholders involved.
