Yuka - A coffee brand that had to move at the speed of the menu
Specialty coffee in Karachi has settled on one look: white walls, thin sans-serif, a green apron somewhere in the ancestry. It photographs well and it looks like every other shop on the block.
Yuka went the other way ochre, deep maroon, palm silhouettes, a script wordmark. Desert warmth instead of Scandinavian calm, which sits closer to how the drinks actually get consumed here.
The real design problem was cadence. A shop like this changes its offer constantly: a Ramadan campaign, a 10% promo, a 20% one, a viral item that has to be on the window within days of trending. A brand that needs a designer for every one of those is a brand that stops looking consistent by month three.
So the system was built as parts that recombine. Two backgrounds, ochre or maroon determine the mood. One display serif holds any headline, and a crescent sits top-left when the campaign is seasonal. Product photography is always cut out and dropped straight onto flat color, never staged in an environment, so a new item can be added without a new shoot. The palm holds a corner, the Arabic wordmark anchors the opposite one.
Which is why the pistachio kunafa cake appears in three different formats across posters, window vinyl, and standees, and all three look designed rather than improvised.
For a food brand, consistency isn't the identity. It's whether the identity survives the fifteenth promotion.
