Ventanas (“windows” in Spanish) is an independent publisher specialising in Spanish, French and Italian literature.
As a new publishing house, the challenge was to create a visual identity able to organise three editorial series while supporting a flexible system for book covers that could work with photography, illustration, and other imagery.
I developed a minimal identity built around the idea of the window as both frame and opening. The logo sits between two interpretations: is it a window, or a book? The visual system uses clean linear structures to frame images and support typography, while a neutral colour palette allows the books to stand out strongly, especially on the website.
The project also included the design of a responsive e-commerce website. I defined the information architecture, UX flows, and UI design, ensuring the platform reflected the clarity and structure of the brand identity while highlighting the catalogue of books. A detailed design brief and specifications were then provided to the developer to guide the implementation.
While different artists and illustrators contribute to the visuals of each book, I personally designed the cover for Italo, a book that brings together conversations between Italo Calvino and Bernardo Valli, two prominent figures in contemporary Italian culture. The poetic nature of their shared moments is translated on the cover through an intangible and elegant graphic gesture.
