I’ve noticed moodboards can take many forms. Some focus more on aesthetics/trends, others on meaning or intention.
I often use moodboards to explore specific brand aspects, like values or personality, rather than a visual style.
With Arqetia, a premium construction firm, transparency came up early as an important brand benefit. I used that idea as a starting point to shape the identity and communication.
How do you usually approach moodboards? Funny side note: we decided this direction exactly one week before Apple announced Liquid Glass. 🙃🙃

Love this approach. I usually treat moodboards less as a “look” exercise and more as an alignment tool — clarifying intent, priorities, and what shouldn’t exist as much as what should. When values are clear early (like transparency here), execution downstream gets way cleaner and more consistent.
Chantal's avatar
That’s the key. Being aligned not only on the visual outcome, but also with the client. And you’re making a great point here, it’s just as important to align on what shouldn’t happen as well. Thank you!

This is such a refreshing take on the branding process. Focusing on a core value like 'transparency' leads to much more intentional design than just following trends. The frosted glass execution for Arqetia is a perfect physical manifestation of that idea. Brilliant work, Chantal!

Thank you, I really appreciate that. Once transparency became the core, it made sense to also highlight the quality and textures of construction materials so the identity felt both honest and solid.

Moodboards are so important to define the brand feeling, helps the clients to align and make decisions. I like to add a custom brand feel page in my proposals - that gives clients a great idea how it will be to work with you and - you already have their feedback on what feels right and what doesn't.
Chantal's avatar
Exactly. Clients often come in with a fixed idea or a lot of uncertainty, but when the moodboard aligns with a clear concept, everything follows. I hadn’t thought about including one in proposals, such a great way to check alignment early!
