Aerocene is an innovative project exploring sustainable, CO₂-free flight using solar-powered balloons. These balloons float, utilizing the sun and infrared radiation heat, eliminating the need for fuel. Roham Fayazi designed the Aerocene App, which predicts flight paths using open meteorological data. The app allows users to navigate and track these flights in real-time.

The project was a partnership between Studio Tomás Saraceno and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences (EAPS). MIT provided scientific data and expertise, while Studio Tomás Saraceno brought artistic vision. The goal was to merge technology, art, and sustainability into a functional tool for atmospheric exploration.

As the sole UX/UI designer, my focus was on translating complex meteorological data into a clear, user-friendly interface. The process involved:

Research & Wireframing – Understanding user needs, data visualization, and structuring the app’s flow.

UI/UX Design – Designing a minimalist, intuitive interface using Figma, Adobe XD, and Photoshop to ensure smooth navigation.

User Testing & Iteration – Refining interactions to make real-time flight tracking and forecasting accessible to users.

The challenge was to balance technical accuracy with simplicity, ensuring users could engage with aerosolar travel without needing deep scientific knowledge.

The Aerocene App serves as more than a navigational tool—it promotes eco-friendly exploration. By demonstrating a zero-emission flight system, the project inspires new ways of thinking about energy, transportation, and our environmental impact.

This project is a testament to how UX/UI design can bridge science, technology, and sustainability. Through collaboration and innovative design, we created a tool that empowers users to explore the future of clean, atmospheric travel.
