Structura AI is a dashboard built to simplify architectural layout generation with the help of artificial intelligence. By combining customizable presets, real-time floor plan editing, and instant AI results, the platform allows architects and interior designers to explore multiple layout variations efficiently. With an intuitive interface, it bridges technical complexity and creative exploration, making architectural planning more accessible and precise.

In the initial version, the system lacked clear differentiation between generated design options. Past layouts looked identical to newly generated ones, forcing users to compare timestamps or recheck details to determine whether a variation was outdated. This not only increased cognitive load but also slowed down the creative workflow, making iteration less fluid.

Interfaces should minimize the user’s memory load by making options and information visible. Users should not have to remember information from one part of the interface to another.

In the initial version, hovering over a floor plan gave no extra detail, forcing users to click or compare layouts manually to figure out differences such as size, room count, or features. In the improved version, a hover state reveals key details (e.g., total area, number of bedrooms, special features like natural light), reducing cognitive load and helping users make quicker, more informed decisions.

To address this, the improved design adopts Jakob Nielsen’s Visibility of System Status heuristic. Past AI-generated results are displayed with striped backgrounds and clear labels, instantly distinguishing them from new options. Combined with features like real-time dimension control, layout presets, and instant regeneration, the dashboard ensures users always know exactly what stage of the design process they are in. This reduces confusion, supports faster iteration, and strengthens trust in AI-generated outcomes.

By applying usability heuristics to a complex AI tool, Structura AI demonstrates how feedback-driven design can significantly improve the user experience. The dashboard not only delivers powerful AI-generated layouts but also provides immediate, intuitive system feedback that helps designers stay in control of their creative process.
