Overview 🔎

Moj app had just newly been launched and they were promoting the ways in several ways to increase creators on the app. One of the ways they promoted the app to potential creators was by conducting an early form of the Moj for Creators program - by making it an event. Moj for Creators was an event conducted to bring creators together in a more professional setting, so that they would take Moj app more seriously.

Brief ✍️

A three-designer team, we were asked to work on an identity for Moj for Creators event conducted in 2021. We were required to design the event identity and all collaterals including print designs and merchandise.

The Big Problem 🤔

The brief given by the operations team was extremely confusing - they wanted an identity that was fun yet serious. The point of this event was to host a conference for creators and make it a convention-like setting. We were told that they needed something that would showcase the idea of a conference/convention, and professionalism yet still be fun and colourful because the app's main USP is to have fun. In fact, Moj (a Hindi word) translates directly to fun in English! So our biggest issue to solve here was: how do we make a professional conference fun?

The Solution and Process 🤝

If any designer has worked with the ops or product team at a big tech startup, they can understand how incredibly tasking it was to finalise an identity for the event. We started off with several directions and the design team internally got my first logo approved and was promptly converted to 3D as well. However, the operations team rejected it, so a lot of rework and sleepless nights happened. Finally, we solved the problem by constructing an identity consisting of graphs to signify creator growth, coupled with kinetic typography and geometric shapes.

Graph and growth go hand-in-hand. We used that as the base to craft the design language for the  event and topped with subtle kinetic movements in Moj brand elements around it. P.S. Doesn’t this animation style remind you of something! Hint: It’s a game everyone loves.

With the identity now in place, collaterals were created included standees, a photobooth, stage designs, and invites - using patterns made with the dotted graph background and colourful geometric shapes. The patterns were quite detailed and unique shapes were created to be used in the patterns. The patterns and identity also involved the usage of Moj Emojis or 'Mojis'.

Merchandise Design

Unique designs within the design language were created for T-shirt designs as part of merchandise.
Each creator was given a badge during the conference event - 4 options were designed and the creators were free to choose whichever they liked best!
The creators who attended the event each received a gift bag containing Moj-themed goodies, merchandise, and cards.
