Armoured solder
The first thing you need to know is that if you are going to defeat the devil, you've got to use your full armour by avoiding deception and compromise, as they can impede our spiritual growth.
We must confront them and move forward.
In this article, we will provide you with practical advice on how to fully equip yourself with the armour of God. We will help you stand out from the crowd with these simple yet effective tips.
Ephesians 6:11–18 illustrates the reality of the spiritual battle that we face every day and describes the protection that God provides us. So, what are the components of the armour of God?
Girdle of truth
The first thing we shall look at is what Paul says in verse 14. If you're going to defeat the devil, you must use the armour by putting on the girdle of truth.
Just like a Roman soldier who wore a tunic and a girdle around his waist to tie everything together, our girdle is the truth in Christian life.
The girdle of truth represents the truth of the word of God controlling our lives.
When we wake up in the morning, the first thing we should reach for is the Word of God and let it get into our lives. The truth is what gives our armour security and strength.
Remember that the devil dictates this world by impacting lies, and as you are living on this earth as a child of God, it is important that you use God's word, which is truth, every day.
Additionally. Questioning God's word by not believing His word and not practically living according to his word can make Satan get all the victory.
The girdle of truth means the application of God's word to our lives. Satan is a liar, and if our lives are girded with truth, then there is no way we can believe his lies.
We must immerse ourselves in the Scriptures and apply the truth of God's word to our lives.
The breastplate of righteousness
The next step is to put on the breastplate of righteousness, which is for the front and the back. This piece of armour protected the soldier's vital organs on the chest and back when they were in the heat of the battle.
This righteousness is not ours, says Isaiah in chapter 64, verse 6.
Our righteousness is like soiled rags. It has nothing to do with our righteousness but with the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
We receive it when we get saved and by believing in the completed works of Jesus Christ and what he did on the cross for us.
For example, the devil comes to use lies about how we should not pray by implying that since we are sinners, God would not bother to listen to us.
He aims to make sure we give up by showing us that we deserve everything we are going through because of all the sins we committed before and after accepting Christ.
Write them amid such accusations; if we choose to listen to the accuser, he will surely defeat us.
Stand your ground when these thoughts come to your mind by reminding yourself and the accuser that you are not wearing your righteousness but the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
Because when we put on the breastplate of righteousness, the righteousness of Christ answers him.
Satan won't be able to respond to this because he cannot fault the perfectly sinless life of Jesus.
Always keep in mind that God will hear your prayer, and God will use you in a great and mighty way.
Shoes of peace
This leads to a third piece of armour, the shoes of peace. As Satan is the source of all evil, we must take this very seriously.
He is the destroyer, and he will do everything in his power, use every single resource he has, and throw every single demon he can at us to destroy us.
He's after the destruction of our lives, marriage, and everything we hold close and dear. In the book of Job, he did that easily and is willing to do it over and over again for us.
Satan is the destroyer, and the only way to destroy a destroyer as a Christian soldier is to use the gospel of peace.
A soldier's feet were fitted with sandals called fatigue. These sandals were made to help protect the soldiers' feet during long marches into battle.
They had extremely thick soles and were wrapped perfectly around the ankles of the soldier in a way that protected them against blisters.
Fatigue also had spikes at the bottom to help the soldier stand firm, meaning he would not slip or hurt his feet.
As believers, we also have a firm foundation in the gospel. We have peace knowing we are secure in what Jesus Christ has done for us.
Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God, and when we are at peace with God, we can stand and face anything.
This is what the Bible says in Psalms 40:2. He lifted me out of the pit of destruction and out of the muddy clay, and he set my feet on solid ground and established my steps.
He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him. He will be our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
The shield also gave the Roman soldiers mobility, and they were able to move around in the heat of the battle. In verse 16, Paul says, Having taken up the shield of belief, with which you shall have the power to quench all the burning arrows of the wicked one,.
By taking up the shield of belief, you will be in a position to move and fight the enemy. You will have mobility, and when Satan attacks, you can move so you can gain more territory.
Most of the time, we find ourselves content with protecting what we have instead of moving where we ought to be. Numbers 33:53 says God has given us land to dwell on, and we should possess that land.
God promised the children of Israel the land of milk and honey, but on the way to the promised land, there were obstacles. We see God even giving them Jericho by miracle.
But after that, Joshua and his army had to fight for every inch to get to the promised land, and they were only able to continually gain victory after victory because they were able to stand on the peace of knowing that they had peace with God.
Being at peace with God gives us mobility and gives us stability to stand firm despite whatever the enemy throws at us, and it will not shake us.
Shield of faith
After we've done that, we take up the shield of faith, and since Satan is the great doubter, he too throws doubt. Paul compares these doubts to the flaming arrows of the wicked.
Have you ever been sitting there and then, out of nowhere, the most ungodly thought comes for no apparent reason? That is what Paul is talking about.
No scripture tells us that Satan can read our minds, but there is a scripture that says Satan can influence our minds, and he wants to throw things at our minds in the form of doubts, fears, dark thoughts, hatred, envy, jealousy, pride, and guilt because he's after your mind.
When Satan begins to throw these fiery darts, we need to put our faith in God. When he begins to throw fiery darts, it's like God doesn't love you or you won't make it.
That's a fiery dart of the wicked one, and we need to put our faith in God because, if the devil can get you to think a lie, he'll get you to live a life filled with lies.
Faith is a shield that must be put on, and it is very simple. The Bible says faith comes by hearing the Word of God, so when the devil's flaming arrows at us, the shield of faith quenches them all.
Doing all of the above consistently will help you become closer to God and develop a closer relationship with Him. This will lead you to live a life that is pleasing to Him and will bring blessings into your life.
Faith is like a shield that we must put on. It's simple, really. The Bible tells us that faith comes from hearing the Word of God. So, when the devil sends his flaming arrows at us, our shield of faith will protect us and stop them in their tracks.
If we consistently do all of the above, we can develop a closer relationship with God and become more pleasing to Him. This will result in blessings in our lives.
Helmet of salvation
Lastly, we have the helmet of salvation. The devil's main target is our mind, and he'll do everything in his power to deceive and darken it.
That's why we need to intentionally put on the helmet of salvation by yielding our minds to the Lord. We should ask the Lord to give us the mind of Christ and to think through us.
We must intentionally feed our minds with the Word of God, whether by reading the Bible or listening to it being read to us.
When you feed yourself constantly with the Word of God, you must make an active effort to reprogram your mind into God's mind, and that is only possible through God's Word.
Eventually, you find yourself thinking like God, loving what God loves and hating what God hates.
Then, having done all this, we take up the sword. A sword aims to cut and can be used as an offensive tool or a defensive tool.
In Matthew chapter 4, when the devil tried to test Jesus in the wilderness, he used the sword of the spirit as an offensive tool to counterattack him.
By engaging in spiritual warfare using spiritual weapons, we come out victorious.
In conclusion, as believers, we must be intentional about putting on the whole armour of God. By doing so, we can stand firm against the devil's schemes and live a victorious life in Christ.
We must constantly feed ourselves with the Word of God, yield our minds to the Lord, and take up the sword of the Spirit.
Through these actions, we can develop a closer relationship with God, become more pleasing to Him, and experience His blessings in our lives.
Let us, therefore, put on the whole armour of God and stand firm in the faith.
