Hi, I'm Muhammad Umair, a Senior Product Designer with 6+ years of experience designing digital products and experiences. For Config Makeathon, I wanted to explore a different kind of product problem: not how we capture more memories, but how we make them meaningful again.
Problem
We have never been worse at remembering, and never had more tools to remember with.
Our phones hold thousands of photos we never revisit. Voice memos sit untouched. Notes apps collect drafts that never become letters. We keep meaning to capture "this moment" for the future, but the future never arrives.
The missing ingredient isn't storage. It's anticipation.
A memory becomes meaningful when there's a moment waiting on the other end of it.
Solution
Timeless is a digital time capsule where you can seal voice notes, photos, drawings, letters, and even a soundtrack into a vault that opens on a future date.
Create a capsule, address it to someone you love—or to your future self—choose when it should unlock, and fill it with memories that matter.
Once sealed, the capsule can be shared as a single link.
No accounts.
No backend.
The link is the gift.
When the chosen day arrives, Timeless transforms the experience into a ceremony through a paced reveal, soundtrack playback, confetti, and a downloadable keepsake card that captures the moment forever.
While most apps optimize for capture, Timeless optimizes for rediscovery.
Workflow
Timeless started from a single sentence prompt in Figma Make:
"A mobile app where you seal memories in a time capsule that unlocks on a future date."
Figma Make generated the initial structure and helped establish the foundation of the experience.
From there, I refined the vault metaphor and emotional tone using Figma Design Agent, iterating on the visual language and developing the cream, navy, amber, and rose palette that shaped the product's identity.
I brought those design decisions back into Make and evolved the prototype into a fully interactive experience using real device capabilities:
Voice recording with MediaRecorder
Live in-app camera capture using getUserMedia
Drawing with HTML5 Canvas
Letter writing
Local persistence
Recipient mode and shareable gift links
Calendar reminders
Soundtrack attachments
Unlock ceremonies with paced memory reveals
Downloadable keepsake cards
The biggest insight during the build was realizing that Timeless wasn't just a journal.
It became a way of giving someone a piece of the present to rediscover in the future.
That shift transformed the product from a personal archive into a gift.
