The Lighthouse Cabinetry project involved designing a comprehensive customization platform tailored for cabinet manufacturing companies. It focused on simplifying the order intake process for personalized cabinet designs across various categories—kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. The platform allowed users to add custom fields to order forms and create reusable templates with predefined questions for specific jobs. Additionally, it provided precise production schedule management by calculating completion timelines based on departmental capacity and unique cycle counts. Seamlessly integrated with manufacturing systems, the platform aimed to reduce errors, enhance operational efficiency, and deliver a user-friendly experience for both novice and expert users.

The primary challenge was creating an interface that catered to users with varying levels of technical expertise while ensuring the Order intake form customization options were comprehensive yet easy to use. Balancing the flexibility required for detailed personalization with the need for design consistency presented additional complexity. Another critical aspect was optimizing production schedules through precise cycle count calculations, ensuring accurate delivery timelines while addressing the unique capacities of each department.

Our team started the project by understanding the user’s needs and gathering insights through interviews and surveys. We researched competitors and industry best practices to identify trends and gaps. Based on these insights, we ideated and prototyped potential solutions, iterating based on user feedback to refine the final design.

The final solution was a robust MVP that retained the familiarity of their Excel system while introducing modern design principles. Key features included a customizable job order form and a streamlined production schedule manager. While the project is still in development, the client was thrilled with the polished, intuitive prototypes and expressed excitement about the potential of the final product.

This project reinforced the value of teamwork and collaboration in tackling complex problems. Working on features like form builders and project management tools deepened my expertise in creating user-centric, scalable solutions. The experience underscored the importance of balancing client requirements with design best practices to deliver impactful results.
