Clart Finance: Connecting Startups with Investors

Overview

Many startups in Nigeria are shutting down due to funding challenges and economic constraints. Clart Finance is a fintech platform designed to bridge this gap by connecting startups with angel investors, and making funding more accessible and transparent. Think Tinder for investments—where startups can showcase their vision and investors can easily find businesses that align with their goals.

Problem

Since 2012, Nigeria has seen a surge in startups, but many have struggled post-2020 due to poor funding, high tax fees, and limited investor connections. Traditional fundraising methods rely heavily on networks, leaving many promising businesses without access to the capital they need to grow.

What Guides Our Efforts?

To kick things off, I conducted primary research to gain a general understanding of the investment market. This encompassed examining a wide range of micro-enterprises, SMEs, groups, and individuals who offer loans, to understand how services are being run in the lending industry. The main aim was to understand and connect user goals and business goals, these were the insights we focused on: 1. User-Centric Approach in Lending 2. Microfinance's Role in Supporting Entrepreneurs 3. Need for Balance between Profit and Social Impact 4. Insights for Industry Innovation In conclusion, the primary research focused on gaining insights into the investment market and lending industry, revealing a diverse range of lending entities and emphasizing a user-centric approach. The inclusion of micro-enterprises highlights the importance of microfinance in supporting local entrepreneurship, while the balance between profit and social impact showcases a complex landscape. Overall, the insights from this research can contribute to industry innovation and the development of lending services that better align with user needs and business objectives.

Identified User Needs

Access to a Diverse and Relevant Investor Network: Startups need an app that provides access to various investors, including venture capitalists, angel investors, and corporate investors. The platform should offer a diverse pool of potential investors, allowing startups to connect with those with a genuine interest in their industry and business model.
Personalized Matchmaking and Recommendations:
Startups require personalized matchmaking services that analyze their business profile, growth stage, and investment requirements. The app should offer intelligent algorithms that match startups with suitable investors based on their specific needs and preferences. Recommendations should be tailored, ensuring meaningful connections.
Secure and Efficient Communication Tools:
Startups need secure communication tools within the app to interact with potential investors. Messaging systems, video conferencing, and document-sharing features should be integrated, allowing startups to communicate seamlessly with investors. Security and confidentiality are paramount to fostering trust between startups and investors.
