Having spent 7 years living in Ibiza and over 20 years visiting, I’m excited to share the best things to do in Ibiza, along with my top picks for places to eat and visit on this little island.
From glitzy nightclubs to hidden coves, ancient ruins to hippie havens, Ibiza, Spain has something for everyone (even if “everyone” is just you and your wanderlust!).

So, ditch the guidebooks and grab your swimsuit – we’re about to dive into the real Ibiza. I’ll be your local insider, sharing my tried-and-true tips on where to eat, where to play, and where to find that special Ibiza magic.
Think of it like Gran Canaria’s wilder, slightly older cousin. Ibiza’s got the same sun-kissed charm, but with a sprinkle of bohemian spirit and a whole lot of history. High-end boutiques rub shoulders with charming villages, and beach bums mingle with artists and DJs in the most unexpected ways.
And yes, the nightlife is legendary. But Ibiza’s not just about dancing till dawn. It’s about cliffside hikes with jaw-dropping views, secret coves where the water shimmers like turquoise jewels, and ancient ruins whispering tales of pirates and Phoenicians.
It’s about getting lost in the labyrinthine alleys of Dalt Vila, the fortified old town perched on a hill, and feeling the weight of centuries melt away. It’s about watching the sun bleed into the sea at Es Vedra, a mystical rock that’s said to hold the island’s soul.
Now, let’s get into the good stuff: the must-do’s, the hidden gems, and the local haunts that’ll make your Ibiza experience unforgettable. Buckle up, because we’re about to embark on an island adventure unlike any other!

Take a boat to Formentera for the day.

Top 10 Best Things to do When Visiting Ibiza

Ibiza coastline
In case you are looking for the absolute best things to do in Ibiza, let me breakdown my favorite top ten things in Ibiza.
People that visit Ibiza simply fall in love with the island and come back year after year, nicknamed the ‘white island’ Ibiza remains in the hearts of the many who have ventured here.
But even though I have been here for so long, there are still so many spots that I find new every single week. I often ask myself, how can an island so small have so much to offer?

1. Take a Hike to the Lost City of Atlantis

The Lost City of Atlantis is truly one-of-a-kind, but be forewarned—it’s a breathtaking journey that involves hiking and sweating to reach its wonders.
Only accessible by foot or boat, it’s a long trek down the hill but when you arrive and see what the fuss is about you will realize that it is so worth the hike.
Atlantis used to be a quarry and large pieces of rock have been selectively removed to build the walls of what is no Dalt Vila Castle.
Once removed, it left large asymmetrical walls with huge holes and shapes in the rock which fill up with sea water and create majestic little rock pools that only enhance the mysticism of this place.
You will find fairy stone circles and art left by wandering hippies and it is not difficult to see why this place was nicknamed after the lost city of Atlantis by the wanderers who first discovered this secret spot in the 60’s and put it on the map. Although it is not so much a secret any longer it is still unlike any other place you will visit.
Ibiza has been linked to legends of the ancient lost city of Atlantis and it is even said that many of the people who fled the devastation and destruction of the Atlantis civilizations, fled to Ibiza and set up home here as well as other locations in the world such as ancient Egypt.

2. Visit Old Town Ibiza

Old town Ibiza, Dalt Vila
Get dressed up and go for Dinner in Ibiza old town and visit the Dalt Vila Castle.
Dalt villa has an ancient and mediaeval feel to it and you can’t help but be catapulted backward in time when you set foot within the walls, yet at night it comes alive with street singers, dancers and the hustle and bustle of people having a good time.
As you stroll through the old town choose one of the many restaurants in the square for tapas. Or, you will not be disappointed going for dinner in one of the many restaurants within the old castle which is lit up spectacularly at night. After eating and having a cheeky shot or ‘chipito’ you can mooch in the night markets, shops and boutiques or go for a drink in one of the many bars.
Be sure to try ‘hierbas’ the local liquor made with local herbs native to Ibiza most restaurants will offer them complimentary at the end of your meal

3. Sunset at Es Vedra

Sunset es vedra
Es Vedra is rumored to be one of the most magnetic places on Earth, it stands out like a giant which literally takes your breath away and you can’t help but feel mesmerized as you approach the giant rock.
People flock from all over the world to see this famous spot ‘es vedra’ and it is known to be a powerful energy vortex that has healing properties. There is fairytale, myth and legend surrounding the giant megalithic rock and many people often speak of the energy and ‘pull’ they feel once they set eyes on this giant breathtaking monument of nature!
The sunsets are dreamy and the sky turns all shades of pink, crimson and orange as the sun sets behind. You will find a little cave, which is full of trinkets and items collected by wandering hippies over the years.
This is something that should not be missed if you get the pleasure of visiting the island

Getting around Ibiza

If you really want to explore the whole island you will need to rent a car. Taxis work out very expensive, most places are not within walking distance and the bus service is running but doesn’t reach everywhere. There are a number of car rental services available although be mindful during peak season costs go up.

Where is Ibiza?

Ibiza is a small island that is midway between Spanish mainland’s coastline and the larger island of Majorca. It is part of the Balearic islands famous for its all year round sunny climate, golden sand beaches and turquoise waters, nestled in the Mediterranean sea it has long been known for not only its Mediterranean charm but also its legend of ancient mysticism and magic!

Knowing Ibiza (The Different Parts of the Island)

Each part of the island has a different ‘vibe’ and I hope you could tell from what I’ve shared above.

Ibiza Town/ Dalt Billa

The capital of Ibiza is ‘Ibiza town’ or ‘Eivissa’ where you will find the old town and Dalt Villa Castle.
Dalt villa is a mediaeval castle built in a fortified town and is richly steeped in history.
Every year the castle hosts a mediaeval festival, where the locals literally transport you back in time, complete with mediaeval food stalls, games, shows and parades through the old cobbled streets.
The panoramic views give you a 360 degree view of the island’s landscape and at night when the castle is lit up it appears ‘majestic and stunning.’
Secret tip: The sunrises at Dalt Vila are incredible and if you go on a full moon you’ll be lucky enough to see the full moon and sunrise both together. Beneath the castle the town is filled with fancy boutiques, local restaurants and quaint coffee shops.
Enter into the square and you will find yourself amongst little traditional Spanish cafes, tapas bars and wine bars, where you can sit in the sunshine and enjoy a glass of vino as you watch the world go by or take a leisurely stroll into the marina, to see some of the many super yachts owned by billionaires that harbor into the marina
When I say super yacht I mean super yachts, Ibiza has long been known as a playground for the rich and famous so it’s not unusual to see huge yachts with helipads moored up. But this is just one side to Ibiza.

The Party Areas

The well known Playa d’en Bossa and San Antonio areas popular with the ‘party’ crowd and being home to some of the ‘well known’ ‘super clubs.’ If you are looking for a fun place to stay that’s not too far from the big clubs, then these are great spots.
Both locations have large beaches so you can dance the night away and then recover on the beach all day.

The North

The North of Ibiza is known for its authentic charm, hippie community and picturesque villages.
The beaches are quieter, the atmosphere is calm and pleasant compared to the more ‘touristy’ resorts of San Antonio or playa Den Bossa.
If you’re looking for authentic Spanish allure, tradition, beauty and rugged nature then the North is definitely going to deliver.

Santa Eulalia

This is my favorite town in Ibiza and it is in the north of the island.
Popular among families, because it is not only beautiful but it’s welcoming and convenient.
The town center has a beach and long promenade through the center making it easier to shop, eat, play and relax all in one place. During the autumn and winter months Santa Eulalia remains open and alive when the rest of the island starts to close down.
Other places to stay in the north:
San Lorenzo, San Carlos, Calla Lenya, San Miguel, Santa Gertrudis

Best Time to Visit Ibiza

If you are looking to escape the crowds and extreme heat then the best time to visit Ibiza is Spring or Autumn. The Summer months get incredibly busy when it is peak season in July and August and the temperatures soar as high as 42 degrees. The island is in full swing, droves of tourists set foot on the island and the clubs, bars and restaurants are all open and heaving, which means be sure to book in advance
The season ‘officially’ opens in May but March and April are still warm enough to lay on the beautiful beaches, swim in the sea and take full advantage of all the hiking routes and wellness activities the island has to offer.
In September and October temperatures cool but are still reaching as high as 30 degrees and the island is more enjoyable, less people and less cars on the road which makes the months of April, May, June, September and October the most favorite time of year amongst the locals and the tourists

Is Ibiza Safe?

In my personal experience, Ibiza is one of the safest places to travel. I rarely lock my car door and you can often see locals hitchhiking around the island. There may be some theft at peak season due to the high amount of tourists so do watch your belongings when on the beach but generally Ibiza is pretty safe and welcoming.
