Overview
For my A-level project, I decided I wanted to create something that resonated with me and that could represent me as a designer. which is why I decided to design and create the African table. as part of the brief, I had to use multiple manufacturing techniques and materials allowing me to explore 3D printing, laser cutting, resin and glass.
Using 2D & 3D design I developed my Idea and was able to use Solidworks to 3D print the legs and 2D design to get custom-cut glass for the tabletop. For the body of the table, I calculated all the angles to create custom miter joints in order to create a geometric African shape for the table. The tabletop was routed and using resin to create a river-like effect to represent the natural wonders in Africa, such as Victoria falls in Zimbabwe. This can also be seen on the side where using a laser cutter I engraved into the wood and then painted to reveal a waterfall. I was able to use many manufacturing techniques, tools, and materials to build this table.
