Community Management: Redefined

Introduction

Redefined is a non-profit that started in January 2022 with the goal of empowering people from marginalized communities especially the BIPOC community and international students through access to education, opportunities and necessary resources. Our education comes in the form of workshops which cater to topics ranging from social issues like menstrual and sexual education, awareness around sexual abuse, climate and sustainability to skill/career-based topics like entrepreneurship, leadership, marketing and financial literacy more to also topics such as health literary and more.

Role and Responsibilities

In April 2023, I started working with Redefined as a Social Media Coordinator. My job involves handling everything related to Redefined's social media. This includes planning, designing, creating, posting, and managing content. My main goal is to support Redefined's mission and help people through my role as a social media coordinator.

Approach

In my role, I'm not just about posting pictures and messages. I'm also the one who comes up with creative ideas. I think of new and interesting ways to share Redefined's message. It's like brainstorming fun and exciting ways to tell our story on social media. This helps us keep things fresh and engaging for our followers.

The idea was to create an informative reel to help international students save money on their groceries in Canada. We collaborated with Divjot, also an international student and a digital creator–to take this idea and put it into action.

A cross-functional campaign that generated over 200 event sign-ups ↓

Conclusion

As a Social Media Coordinator at Redefined, my journey has been defined by a commitment to amplifying our mission of empowerment within marginalized communities and among international students. Through the strategic management of our social media channels, I've sought innovative ways to connect with our audience. Noteworthy accomplishments include successful event promotion and impactful collaborations that have significantly broadened our reach. Looking forward, I remain unwavering in my dedication to utilizing the power of social media to foster genuine connections and drive forward Redefined's mission of positive change.
