Why not ask your friends for recommendations on what to watch?
MyBundle - Where to Stream Mobile App "Ask My Friend's List" Feature
Overview
With so many ways to watch TV across different devices and providers nowadays, finding what you want to watch has become more frustrating than ever. There’s tons of great content out there, but it’s scattered across multiple platforms, making it harder for users to discover and manage the content they’re interested in.
I led the ideation, wireframing, and design of the "Ask My Friends' List" feature in MyBundle’s first native mobile app for iOS and Android, allowing users to get personalized recommendations from friends they trust or who share similar tastes, as one of the main feature within the app.
Problem
There are plenty of movie and TV discovery apps designed to simplify choices and speed up decisions, but the truth is, many users complain that recommendation algorithms don’t always get it right.
The Born of the Ask My Friend's List Feature
I created survey questionnaires to the our target audiences and get 315 answers back.
How Might We?
How might we create a feature that allows users who want to watch a movie or TV show right away to get suggestions or recommendations quickly and more accurately, without relying on algorithms?
3 Types of Users Stories Involved
There are 3 different types of users in this case scenarios:
1) Users who'd like to select the movie/tv show to their friends for recommendations.
2) Users who received the request and recommend the movie/tv show to the sender.
3) Users who got the notification and would like to view the recommended results.
Result
Overall, MyBundle - Where to Stream app has received a 4.9 rating on iOS and a 4.8 rating on Android since its launch, gaining 10k organic installs within 6 months.
The "Ask My Friend's List" feature received many great reviews, and the customer satisfaction rate increased by 10%.
