Overview
JP Media approached me to design a website for their photography portfolio, aiming to showcase their stunning visual work in a clean, user-friendly format. The goal was to create a modern, engaging website that would highlight their photography skills and make it easy for potential clients to view their work and get in touch.
Design Overview
The website was designed to feature large, high-quality images in a minimalist layout that emphasises JP Media’s photography. With a focus on visual storytelling, the design aimed to balance aesthetics with functionality, offering easy navigation and a seamless viewing experience across all devices.
Challenges
The main challenge was creating a website that allows the client’s photography to shine while also providing clear information about services, contact details, and portfolio organisation. The design needed to be both visually appealing and highly functional to ensure a smooth user experience for visitors.
My Role
As the lead designer, I was responsible for:
• Creating the visual identity and layout of the website, ensuring the design was clean and visually striking.
• Designing a responsive portfolio that allows the client’s work to be showcased in full-screen, high-quality images.
• Prototyping the site structure and interactions, ensuring seamless navigation and a fast-loading experience.
• Collaborating with the client to ensure the design aligned with their vision and branding.
Process
1. Discovery and Research
To understand JP Media’s vision, I conducted research into other photography portfolios and industry trends to create a unique but effective design. We discussed the types of photos they wanted to showcase, the target audience, and key features that would help them stand out.
2. Wireframing
Using the insights from the research, I created wireframes that mapped out the core sections of the site, including the homepage, portfolio, about, and contact pages. The wireframes focused on a clean, easy-to-navigate layout with large image displays.
3. Design
Building upon the wireframes, I designed high-fidelity mockups with a minimalist aesthetic, focusing on bold imagery and smooth transitions. The colour palette and typography were carefully chosen to complement the photography without overshadowing it.
4. Prototype
I created an interactive prototype to demonstrate how the website would function in terms of navigation, image galleries, and page transitions. This allowed the client to visualise the user experience before the final development.
Results
The website prototype was met the client’s goals:
• A clean, professional design that highlights JP Media’s photography portfolio.
• A responsive, easy-to-navigate site with smooth image galleries.
• Positive feedback from the client, who now has a modern design to showcase their work and attract new clients.
