Hunchy Hills Distillery — a female-led craft gin distillery

📍Australia
BACKGROUND
Hunchy Hills is a small distillery in the Queensland hinterlands, run by a founder who'd spent years building the brand, the bottles, and a gin range she's genuinely proud of. By the time she came to us for the web build, the brand and packaging work were already done. What she needed was a storefront that could actually carry the product, sell it directly to customers, and hold up next to the distilleries already dominating the Australian craft gin shelf.
THE CHALLENGE
A distillery website has to do a lot of unglamorous things well. It has to make the gin look as considered on a screen as it does in a hand. It has to handle direct-to-consumer sales, age verification, shipping rules across Australian states, and in Hunchy Hills Distillery' case — a POS system tied to the cellar door, so a bottle sold at the distillery and a bottle sold online don't end up fighting over the same stock count.
On top of that, a craft gin site lives or dies on feel. Too polished and it reads as mass-market. Too rustic and it reads as a hobby project. The site needed to sit in the narrow space where the brand already lived: feminine without being soft, premium without being distant, considered without being precious.
THE APPROACH
We designed and built the site on Shopify, using 3D bottle renders built in Blender so every product shot could stay consistent, controllable, and brand-accurate without relying on a studio day every time a new release dropped. The label art from artist Vanessa Perske — originally created for the packaging — carries through onto the product pages, giving each gin its own small piece of storytelling instead of another identical bottle-on-white-background.
On the development side, we built a custom Shopify theme rather than buying one off the shelf, mostly because the brand deserved it and partly because the POS integration for the cellar door needed room to breathe. Online orders and in-person sales now run off the same stock. The founder can see both without logging into two systems.
The site has been live since 2024, and the gin range has gone on to win Gold and Bronze at the Australian Gin Awards. The awards belong to the gin and the woman who made it. But it's a good feeling, again, when the work you made is on the shelf while it happens.
Note: Work shown as delivered. The live version may have been modified by the client.

Thank you for watching. 🫶
