Designing a social way to discover, attend, and remember what’s happening around you.

ABREN is an event discovery and review app built to make finding things to do feel less like searching through listings and more like finding something that actually fits your taste.
Abren (አብረን) - roughly translates to “together” (translated from Amharic) for an app that’s meant to help you explore places and events, it seemed quite fitting. what’s a good time if you can’t share it with friends.
I worked across the entire experience, from the brand to the website and mobile product, with one goal: make everything feel like one system.

Brand design

ABREN is built around going out, sharing plans and talking about experiences, so the brand needed to feel social from the start.
I developed a playful, energetic and conversational identity that carried directly into the product.
brand presentation
brand presentation
The rule was simple:
be playful when personality helps. be clear when the user needs to act.
That meant the brand could show up in onboarding, empty states, reviews and reminders without getting in the way of payments, forms or authentication.

Mobile design

The mobile product was designed around the full lifecycle of going out:
Discover → Decide → Go → Review → Get better recommendations
Users can discover personalized events, save things for later, set reminders, buy and manage tickets, share plans with friends and review experiences afterward.

I also separated discovery from commitment. Events you're considering live separately from the ones you're actually attending, so the app can answer two different questions:
what should I do?
what am I already doing?
place and event review

Reviews then feed back into discovery, helping ABREN learn what the user actually likes and improve future recommendations.

Web design

The website had one clear job:
explain ABREN and get people into the app.
I kept the experience focused around event imagery, simple messaging and clear calls to action instead of trying to recreate the entire product on the web.
The same visual system and brand voice carry across both, so moving from the website to the app still feels like ABREN.

The result is one connected experience across brand, web and product, designed around making it easier to find something worth doing.
