Award Winning Gouache Painting • Uneasy

Kirraley Hardiman

Immersed in my fascination with the fluidity of water, I embarked on an exploration of its intricate dance with reflections; something often overlooked.
The mesmerising beauty of this interplay captivated me, & I sought to convey this through my art. Choosing a subject expressing ambiguous emotions added an intriguing layer to the artwork. I envisioned viewers taking a moment to decipher the nuanced feelings, all the while immersing themselves in the intricate water reflections and strokes my paintbrush executed during the creation of the piece. I wanted to draw attention to the texture and eliminate the potential distraction of colour.
Qualified for Top Arts in 2016, earning recognition in a prestigious showcase.
Displayed at the National Gallery of Victoria, the artwork reached a wider audience.
Currently adorning the front cover of the studio arts textbook for Australian VCE students, the piece has held this prominent position for five years, resonating with and inspiring budding artists.
